Here is a fabulous antique bisque shoulder head doll by Alt, Beck & Gottschalk, she is mold number 1123 and was made in Thuringia, Germany circa 1880s. Incised 8 on the back of the head. The head is turned to the right. She has thickly painted eyebrows in feather stroke, individually painted upper and lower lashes, brown glass sleep eyes and open mouth that reveals upper teeth and molded double chin. Her wig is made of light brown human hair and is worn in long finger curls.
The leather body is stuffed with gussets at the elbows, buttocks and knees - some settling of stuffing with small areas of breakage of stitches of the gussets. The childs hands are bisque. She is dressed in white eyelet long sleeve dress with pink ribbon sash, lace trimmed fitted waist pantalettes, white lace stockings and white leather boots. The clothes are not antique but are natural fabrics and, proper style and made with skill.
