This gorgeous 20 inch doll has a stunning, extremely turned bisque shoulder head and a lovely, clean, sawdust-stuffed kid body with bisque lower arms. As the plaster pate is securely glued on, I did not remove it to look inside the head. The shoulder head however appears to be without damage, despite only a darkened mold line over the left shoulder. The face is uncharacteristically round, with dark brown eyes that rest beneath thick, feathered brows. Moreover, the eyes are original and have retained all of the lid wax.Inside of the mouth, is a row of tiny, square cut teeth. The lips that frame them, are beautifully peaked and outlined. As mentioned above, the gusseted leather body is without damage. It has an unusual corset of green, satiny fabric that is actually a part of the body. It is nicely trimmed with lace for realism. To give you a better idea of body size, the waist is tiny, having a circumference of only 7 1/8 inch. The hips however are ample and measure a full 11 inches in circumference. The detail continues to the bisque lower arms, which feature delicate hands and incised nailbeds.
The doll is costumed in a black Victorian style walking dress that secures with tiny hook and eye fasteners in back. Not nearly as old as the doll, the dress is vintage however, and shows its age with torn or missing black lace at the sleeves and hem. Beneath this article, are two, vintage style half slips, and an antique chemise and equally as old pair of open pantaloons. Of these, only the very lacy slip has damage, consisting of lace that needs to be reattached in areas. The doll also wears worn, but nice leather boots and a thinning mohair wig, over a plaster pate.Ready for display, this doll will greatly please the next new owner.
