Antique Morimura Brothers German Mold Bisque Doll. Marks: 7246-4, Morimura stamp, other parts unreadable. Material: Bisque head; no chips or cracks; original composition body; no missing fingers. Morimura brothers made such fine dolls- and this small closed mouth bisque is one of the rarest they made- won't see her often!Morimura Brothers of Japan, originally a porcelain factory, made dolls for a very short period around the turn of the century, from German molds and with German bodies; the quality of the bisque is often superior to later German bisques- as you can see! This exceptional bisque character 7246 mold is rather difficult to find, and even more so in this smaller cabinet size- so many Morimura dolls are larger babies. A wonderful petite cabinet size, she has a dewy pink patina to the bisque and slate blue working sleep paperweight glass eyes. She has a grand molded closed mouth with delicately tinted lips, nice painted upper and lower lashes, pale blush, and those very arched singlestroke auburn brows- just spectacular! Her body is equally wonderful- an antique German version of a French body, wide wide arched feet- so wide she doesn't need a doll stand, as you can see! Her beautiful wig is later, c1960s or so; truth be told, it's a bit small on her pate, though it looks grand on her! She wears a pretty and very well made offwhite fancy doll dress; the netting is torn in a few places, but otherwise it looks lovely on her. She has later doll socks, an earlier antique petticoat, and some pretty red velvet shoes; slight wear to shoes.
