This is a truly exceptional Fulper doll. Her head is bigger than mine! Her clothes and shoes are beautiful, in very good condition, and appear original.

The shoes are ivory kidskin. The pantaloons are wonderful, and there is a peaked-waist eyelet camisole that is so cute. There is an under skirt, and it, like the dress and pantaloons, has handmade lace. She has large glass eyes and little white teeth.

She has an interesting ribbon around her neck, which I believe hides a repair. It appears glued on, so I did not remove it. The ribbon is from the early part of the 20th century or earlier and is stuck on with a tiny fishhook. The neck beneath the ribbon is solid, not broken. You can see on her chin where the repair was painted and doesn't quite match the face's colors.

Here is what I could find about Fulper on line. Fulper Pottery Company of Fleming, New Jersey was established in 1805. From 1918 until 1927 Fulper Pottery made all bisque dolls and bisque heads to fill the void of German, French and other European doll makers due to World War I for the American doll industry. Among the companies that used Fulper bisque products are; Amberg.

Fulper produced bisque socket head or shoulder heads for dolly face child dolls 14 to 26 tall, some with human hair wigs, often with sleep eyes made of metal and celluloid, some heads have molded painted hair with intaglio eyes, all have an open mouth. Bisque socket or shoulder plate bent limb character baby dolls 13 to 24 tall, with sleep eyes and molded painted hair or wigged, open mouth, as well as an all bisque Kewpie Fulper marked doll and an all bisque Peterkin doll by Horsman have been found and probably others. Fulper ceased manufacture of bisque doll heads in 1922, but continued to sell their inventory until 1927.

Fulper did make novelties and pin cushion heads after 1922. The item "Antique Edwardian Victorian Life-Size Store Display Fulper Bisque Doll 53 Tall" is in sale since Friday, September 02, 2016.
