Fine Antique/Vintage 11 RUSSIAN BISQUE BOY DOLL. 1930s (using a German KR mold).Made in Soviet Union USSR Communist Russia. Handsome & hard to find Russian young male doll in winter Cossack type dress. Bisque-fired terra cotta socket head (using an older German Kammer & Reinhart dolly-face mold), j. Blue glass sleep eyes, multi-stroke brows, open mouth with teeth, blonde flax hair in a page boy style. Wearing a detailed ethnic/Cossac costume: beige flannel great-coat with over-long sleeves ending in tan silk with orange/brown geometric print cuffs & navy w/red stripe facing.
Navy/yellow/blue stripe cotton belt wound around several times & knotted; dk red Cossack style hat with navy edging; wht cotton tunic shirt with brown dots; brown/tan animal print knickers; brown leg coverings; bast (wickerwork) shoes which lace up his calves. These dolls are believed to have been made in the Duneav Factory , one of the doll & toy making towns around St. Petersburg, Russia in the 1920s-30s.
They are not easy to find. He's been restrung & holds a pose well. His coat is a bit soiled. I find no damage to the head.
