Fine Antique/Vintage 11 RUSSIAN BISQUE DOLL. 1930s (using a German KR mold). Made in Soviet Union USSR Communist Russia. Lovely & hard to find Russian young lady doll in dress of Ryazan District.
Bisque-fired terra cotta socket head (using an older German Kammer & Reinhart dolly-face mold), j. Blue glass sleep eyes, open mouth with teeth, blonde flax hair in a braid coiled around the top. Wearing a detailed ethnic costume: off-wht homespun cotton overdress with red bodice, sleeve-bands & cuffs with navy piping trim, over-long sleeves, attached ornate woven multicolor-striped apron with gold fringed edging; brown/wht stripe tunic underneath with red floral band at hem; navy blue wool skirt with lt blue diagonal lines print, edged w/red; replaced wht cotton pantaloons with lace edge (somewhat innapropriate but correct timewise); wht stockings with bast (wickerwork) shoes that lace up her calves.
Brown cotton headscarf with floral print. 2 chokers: 1-amber glass & 1-tan/brown wooden beads.
These dolls are believed to have been made in the Duneav Factory , one of the doll & toy making towns around St. Petersburg, Russia in the 1920s-30s. They are not easy to find. She has been restrung & holds a pose well. Her dress is somewhat soiled & faded esp.
