Antique German Bisque Doll, KESTNER, Jointed Leather Body, Arms, Legs, Germany. Kestner doll measuring almost 20 long. Featuring a charming bisque head with large brown glass sleep eyes, hand painted eyelashes, brows, nostril and lips - she has an open mouth with exposed teeth and original blond pate attached wig. Bearing an incised "8" on her head back, she has KESTNER'S faint crown and ribbon JDK GERMANY purple stamp on her leather back, as well as the original maker's tag with hand penciled numbers on her lower back. Body is amazing - all original, it appears to be cork stuffed - shoulders, elbows, bottom and knees are all joint sewn - these do not have metal pins, instead they are made by sewing an extra piece of fabric into each area to allow movement.

Lower legs and feet as solidly stuffed and covered in a stiff linen - lower arm, wrist and hands are porcelain and original to the body. The kidskin covering has a charming scallop treatment around the shoulder and wrist area.

Condition is lovely - she has no chips, cracks, or repairs to her face - very minor soiling to her rosy cheeks from "loving". Kidskin has light soiling and spotting as shown, and linen covering the legs has light soiling as well. There is a production flaw on the neck side seam - it is dark from age, but the result of how the bisque cooled, not a crack or damage.

Canvas pate is securely glued into place and hair is hand stitched in rows onto the pate - old pink ribbon accents the hair which is flattened from age.
